Last year, we came up with a blog post
about the Miss
Universe First Runner Up Curse. While
I don’t personally, believe it as stated in that historical review, it is also
interesting that for 11 consecutive years already, the countries that won Miss
World became clappers the following year. Can we call this a curse???
Let us first review history:

SOME OBSERVATIONS:
1. Indeed, for several years, those countries who won recently had
their delegates completely shut out from the semifinalist slot. Thus, it
becomes a herculean task for Miss Philippines 2014 to break this trend. She
must win or enter into the finals – or she can completely continue this
so-called curse.
2. In the past years, some countries who won managed to duplicate their
victory the following year: Sweden did it in 1951 and 1952, United Kingdom did
it in 1964 and 1965; India also made it in 1999 and 2000. Thus a two-in-a-row
victory is not really impossible.
3. I don’t believe that there is such a thing as a “Miss World Curse.”
History proved it before that the reigning countries may also make it in the
finals, or settle for a runner up slot, or even won the crown bug time. Thus,
good luck to our Miss Philippines 2014! You are about to change history! Make
us proud!
