Oplan Miss World 2014: Back to Back

In an interview during People Asia’s People of the Year Awards held at the Fairmont Hotel in Makati City on Tuesday, January 21, Quirino said they are widening their search for this year’s Miss World Philippines, the pageant that determines the representative for the international Miss World pageant.

She added they now have “search partners” in America and in Europe to diversify the possible contestants for this year’s search
“The search has already begun. And who knows? We might a back to back with Miss World?” Quirino said.

She added, “So we’re looking for our daughters out there, the daughters of beautiful Filipinas and inviting them over to participate in the Miss World Philippines.”

Is she confident the Philippines will do well in the 2014 pageant after the victory of current Miss World titleholder Megan Young?

“I’m confident. I’m very confident. The Filipina is very beautiful,” Quirino said.

Aside from another Miss World winner from the Philippines, Quirino hopes to bring the international beauty pageant to the Philippines soon.

“It’s a great possibility,” she said when asked if it’s it possible to hold the Miss World pageant in the Philippines. “It’s in my wish list and I will do everything I can to make that happen.”

Megan Young is currently in the country to receive her People of the Year award from lifestyle magazine People Asia, which is celebrating its 14th year.
Other honorees this year include director Brillante Mendoza, actor Coco Martin, singer Kuh Ledesma, ABS-CBN executive Cory Vidanes, and actress Nora Aunor.
President Benigno Aquino III presented the award for People Asia’s Lifetime Achievement recipient Socorro Ramos, the founder of National Bookstore.
“I am very honored to be a part of the list of awardees for People Asia,” Megan said. “There are 14 of us. Some I know personally, the others I look up to as my idols. It’s exciting to meet the people that I idolize. And at the same time, there are people—young girls—who look up to me, so those are the people who inspire me to be here today and I hope to continue doing that.”

Miss Earth 2013 Starts Now!

The whole world will have the chance to witness the beauty of the Philippines as Miss Earth 2013 takes the lead in promoting eco-tourism to the global community.

Miss Earth, the only pageant with a proactive advocacy in saving the environment, will focus on eco-tourism this year as its contribution to the country’s efforts to use tourism as a means to help alleviate poverty. With the event being broadcast in more than 50 countries around the world, Miss Earth will prove to be a very effective channel to promote the Philippines as a top eco-tourism destination that tourists from other countries can visit all year round. 90 Miss Earth beauties for a cause will converge in the country starting the second week of November to engage in environmental awareness and conservation activities, and compete for the coveted Miss Earth crown. With more than a decade of eco-service to the world, the Miss Earth pageant has continually produced beauty queens who serve as eco-ambassadors that inspire worldwide cooperation to promote and work towards a sustainable Earth.

The Miss Earth 2013 Coronation Night will be held at Versailles Alabang in Las Piñas on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at 8:00 p.m. It will be telecast LIVE on Fox Network’s Star World channel and Latin American countries thru VENEVISON Venezuela and Mexico, and USA territories thru MVS/UNO TV, and on a delayed basis on ABS-CBN on Sunday, December 8, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. The show will also be telecast on The Filipino Channel and broadcast in participating countries.

Miss World 2013 Predictions: Who Failed? Who Nailed?

Several websites and missosologists, so-called pageant experts, put in their pageant predictions prior to the Miss World pageant. Since they always have a word or two in the world of beauty competitions, we always looked up to them and listen to their critical evaluations of who failed it and who nailed it. Now that Miss Philippines already captured the crown, let us go back to these “pageants experts” and check out who failed in their predictions and who nailed it by guessing the right winner.

She had Miss France and Miss Philippines in her top 3 list, and she correctly predicted the victory of the Philippine delegate Megan Young. STARMOMETER.COM – the total entertainment blog only listed 15 ladies most likely to win Miss World 2013. Like the Ang Haraya blog, she also had Miss France and Miss Philippines in her top 3 list, and she also correctly predicted the victory of the Philippine delegate Megan Young.  Score: 13 out of 15.

RAPPLER.COM – Kudos to this website! Written by beauty queen Joyce Anne Burton, the website correctly picked Miss Philippines as their ultimate pick together with Miss France as first Runner Up in their post. Certaily, Miss Joyce has the eyes for beauty. Score: 12 out of 20.

GLOBALBEAUTIES.COM – One of the pioneer pageant websites correctly predicted in their leaderboard the victory of Miss Philippines. Score: 12 out of 20.
