Miss Manila 2014 is Here!

WE THOUGHT we have had enough of beauty pageants, but last Monday, the Mayor of Manila, President Joseph Estrada, called for a press conference to announce the revival of the beauty pageant that had been Manila’s café society’s favorite conversation piece.

 

The contest’s most famous (others refer to it though as infamous) legacy is the former First Lady, now Congresswoman representing Ilocos Norte, her husband’s home province, Imelda Romuladez Marcos. She joined the pageant in 1952. No, she didn’t win the title but she was named first runner up. Yet, the young Imelda then would become the most talked about candidate after angrily protesting the result and naming her Muse of Manila.

The 21st edition of Top Model of the World for the year 2014, will be held on Thursday April 10, 2014 in El Gouna, Red Sea, Egypt. Contestants from 45 countries and autonomous territories will compete for the title of modeling. Monica Palacios Top Model of the World 2013 from the Caribbean will crown her successor as Top Model of the World 2014 at the end of the event.

Miss Earth, the only pageant with a proactive advocacy in saving the environment, will focus on eco-tourism this year as its contribution to the country’s efforts to use tourism as a means to help alleviate poverty. With the event being broadcast in more than 50 countries around the world, Miss Earth will prove to be a very effective channel to promote the Philippines as a top eco-tourism destination that tourists from other countries can visit all year round. Carousel Productions, Inc., the pageant organizer, will be working hand in hand with Miss Earth Foundation and ABS-CBN Foundation to achieve the eco-tourism goals of Miss Earth and make the pageant event even more spectacular this year.
