Before Maribel was crowned BB. Pilipinas she was a Gerard Peter Model (model for sexy lingerie that showcases such stuff in the hottest night spots before). Before the start of the finals night of 1982 BB. PIlipinas, judges Rita Gomez and Armida Reyna went to the backstage, talked to Maribel, and confronted her if indeed she worked before as a GP Model.... she said YES and at the back of her mind she already said goodbye to any of the titles at stake that year.

She was called in as one of the semifinalists. Then fate as would have it, she was assigned to Rita Gomez for the Interview portion... thus the QUESTION... Are YOU STILL A VIRGIN.... came out.... Maribel, having already resigned to the fact that she has no chance of winning became very game and playful in that moment...even throwing the same question to the judge....she was the most surprise candidate when the announcements were made....

Maribel's stint at Miss U was forgettable to say the least. Even with a beautiful body, she still scored low in the swimsuit category which reflected the fact that she was not a favorite.

Despite how much the pageant has evolved, some things remain the same. Although there are new faces each year, the quality of the women and pageant has been consistent. The tradition, legacy, relevance and message of the Miss Cebu pageant remains that the Cebuana is more than just your usual beautiful face- she is an epitome of beauty, brains, a woman of substance. Consistently, Miss Cebu has produced national and international beauty queens, world-class models and individuals who excel and stand out in different fields.

Miss Cebu is unique and special. She is goal-oriented, direct and ambitious. She is an achiever in many areas.
